In Ireland, the Education Department at St. Patrick’s College is facilitating professional development with 22 teachers in 10 primary schools in the Dublin region. The main focus of the Irish project is developing teachers’ expertise in teaching about the Nature of Science as part of the Primary Science Curriculum (DES, 1999), using an innovative professional development programme. When learning about the Nature of Science the teachers will be engaging with novel methodologies for teaching and learning about:
• What science is;
• How scientists work;
• Creativity and innovation in science;
• The history of ideas in science;
• Science, technology and society;
• Science in the media.
